"Zanzoche non si riposi mai" · A guided visit to the 17th-century courtyard
The steward wrote it in 1792, weary of building works that never ended. From that line begins a 45-minute walk with historian Fabio Salandini: the well named in the deed of 1672, the basins of the water petitioned from Venice in 1734, the paved court where in 1796 Masséna's officers danced 'as a sign of peace'. Every stop has its document, and you will see it.
Calendar
Sabato 17 Ottobre
In case of bad weather:
Confirmed. The visit takes place in any weather. The route is almost entirely outdoors: if it rains, we recommend bringing an umbrella.
Duration
Il pomeriggio
16:00-17:00
1) Hear the story from the man who wrote it, not from someone repeating it: Fabio Salandini traced the history of this courtyard through the archives and published it in a book. Here he tells it as you walk through it.
2) See what the papers name, still in its place: the well recorded in the deed of 1672, the Carminati coat of arms of 1692, the basins of the water petitioned in 1734, the oratory signed for in 1794 by Ludovico Manin, the last Doge of Venice, the paved court where Masséna’s officers dined. The restoration that saved them earned this courtyard the Premio Villa Veneta 2018 and 5 Leoni, the top grade of the Veneto Region’s classification.
3) Learn why the hottest hyperthermal spring ever found in the province of Verona — 52.9 °C — rises beneath the walled garden, and why it is not the water of 1734.
