Venetian Villas in History

The Timeline of the History of Venetian Villas

The Association, in close collaboration with the IRVV, developed the first-ever Timeline of the History of Venetian Villas during the project “Oltre La Siepe” (Beyond the Hedge), a training course for teachers of all levels. The extraordinary result was possible thanks to the willingness and collaboration of our Board Member, Dr. Margherita Azzi Visentini, a historian and expert on Venetian Villas.

The illustrated infographic tells the story of the Civilization of the Villa through three historical periods. It begins in 421, the mythical founding date of Venice, and moves through the birth of the Venetian Republic, the emergence of the first Venetian Villas, and gradually chronicles the work of great figures and essential historical moments, such as Palladio, the development of the Serenissima, the Baroque period, the Fall of the Venetian Republic, Romanticism, and the Wars, up to the present day.

This educational and promotional tool will be used by all participating Villas at the event as a “shared starting point” for welcoming visitors and presenting their experience. The goal is to introduce each specific Venetian Villa within the larger context of the history of the Civilization of the Villa.
